Winter 2014 First Impressions Part Two: Continuations!

Kill la Kill

There's a few shows in second season, and a few from last season that are still airing. here's a rundown of what I'm enjoying the most.

Studio Trigger's first big hit. It's Gurren Laggan plus more fan service and it's freaking awesome. Great comedy, great battle scenes, the animation is fun to watch, overall I just love it.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Log Horizon
Log Horizon

Imagine if Sword Art Online had less plot holes, focused on an ensemble cast, and wasn't a cheesy romance. You'd almost be imagining Log Horizon, a show that i quickly growing on me. It's funny, it's interesting, and it doesn't insult your intelligence. Anyone who's ever played an MMORGP or Dungeons and Dragons and loved it should give this a shot.

Highly Recommended.

Magi: The Kingdom of Magic
Magi: The Kingdom of Magic

The second season of Magi is just as fun to watch as the first was. If you enjoyed season one you'll love Kingdom of Magic! Sure, sometimes the art is a little bad, but it makes up for it with the story being great, the characters growing in interesting ways, and the mythology of it all being completely engrossing.

Highly Recommended.

Golden Time
Golden Time

I was not expecting this show to take the dark turns that it has, and have found myself really enjoying the ride. Not at all your typical rom-com, but maybe not what you'd want to watch if you can't stand rom-com.

Somewhat Recommended.

Honorable mention goes to:
Gin no Saji 2nd Season Still seems just as fun as the first season.
Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren Not yet capturing the charm of season one, but still not bad.

Winter 2014 First Impressions Part One: Shows I L❤VE!

Wake Up, Girls!

I've never really gotten into an idol show, and when I heard there was going to be a movie and a show released at the same time, it seemed kind of tedious. Boy am I glad I gave it a shot though! This show is awesome. The music is great. The grittiness is great, the characters are great. The art is brilliant. This could be my favorite show of the season if it stays as good as it has been, having now seen the movie, and the first two episodes.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Space☆Dandy

Space☆Dandy
I freaking L❤VE Space☆Dandy! Part Lupin III IN SPACE, part Super Milk Chan, and part PURE AWESOME, this show is revolutionary in that it's the first anime to ever have English dubs released at the same time as it airs in Japan. They chose a hell of a show to try this little experiment on, and after watching the first two episodes, I'm already a big fan. It's tongue in cheek, it's hand on ass, and it's no-holes-barred funny. I haven't actually seen the dubs yet, but I figure I'll give them a shot eventually.

Highly recommended.

Hoozuki no Reitetsu

Hoozuki no Reitetsu
This show has taken me off guard. I wasn't expecting much going in, but it's been fun as hell so far, and the artwork is insane. Nothing ground-breaking, but it sure seems to have the potential to be a fun to watch, funny show. If you like really fluid animation and dark comedy this should be right up your alley.

Nisekoi

Nisekoi
I have a confession to make. I freaking L❤VE Studio SHAFT! I've yet to see a show put out by them that wasn't at least an 8/10 in my book. I even really like some of the SHAFT shows that aren't as appreciated. So, obviously I was excited to catch this one, and so far, it has not been a let down. The art is pure SHAFT, the characters are interesting, the plot is interesting, and overall it's just really fun to watch.

Highly Recommended.

  Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda

I don't seem them praised all that often, but I've come to find that A1 Pictures is a solid anime studio, that is fairly reliable about putting out quality shows. This is no exception. I've only watched the first episode but I already am intrigued, want to know more, and am anxious to see the next episode. This seems like it will be a good mix of comedy, action and mystery. Also a loli who takes over the world. What's not to love?

Highly Recommended.

Sakura Trick

Sakura Trick
Love them or hate them, Studio DEEN can sure put out some special shows. After the complete freak out a few seasons back over the DEEN Rozen Maiden relaunch, and the highly enjoyable show that rocked everyone's expectations, I decided I should give this bizarre Yuri show a shot. And yes, it's dumb, it's nothing too original, and it'll make you feel dirty watching it, but it sure has a lot of charm, and is entertaining. If you're looking for something ecchi to watch this season and don't want to be completely bored, give this a shot.

Somewhat Recommended.

2014 Winter Anime So Far

I'm going to try to keep up with most of the full length shows this season. Here's my impressions so far:

Nobunagun- First episode wasn't bad. Nothing special but it's not awful. I'll probably at least watch a few more episodes.
Witch Craft Works- A JC Staff comedy. A cute show, clever-ish silliness and it doesn't seem like something that's been done to death. I'm going to give it a few more tries.
Space☆Dandy- Fucking hilarious. One of my favorites so far!
Noragami- Not bad so far, also nothing that exciting, yet, but it seems to have potential.
Buddy Complex- A Sunrise Mecha? Yeah, I'll be watching it.
Nobunaga the Fool - OMG THAT PLOT!!! HOW CAN I NOT WATCH!?!
Saki: Zenkoku-hen- Haven't seen the previous seasons, might marathon them sometime this season and try to catch up since I've heard so many good things about this series.
Tonari no Seki-kun (10 min. ep.)- One of the only shorts I'm going to give a shot this season. Seems fun and cute so far.
Wizard Barristers: Benmashi Cecil - Not aired yet, I'm interested.
SoniAni: Super Sonico The Animation - I don't even know what to think of this yet. First episode was all over the place.
Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta- I watched the movie the manga is based on recently and enjoyed it, and the first episode wasn't bad. Will keep watching.
D-Frag!- Seems fun as hell so far.
Hamatora the Animation- Could be entertaining, could be awful, I'm not sure yet.
Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren - The only Kyoni show this season. Going to watch for sure.
Mikakunin de Shinkoukei- Seems like fun so far. I have no complaints.
Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha. - Not aired yet, not really that interested anyway.
Maken-Ki! Two- Watched the first episode of the first season. It was awful. This season is Xebec though, so I may just skip ahead and check it out.
Gin no Saji 2nd Season- Loved the first season, second season seems fun so far.
Mahou Sensou- About to watch, seems like it could be good so far.
Hoozuki no Reitetsu- I really love the art style and it seems like this could be one of the best this season so far.
Z/X: Ignition- Wow this is awful. Dropped.
Sakura Trick- DEEN YURI FOR THE WIN! WILL WATCH!
Nourin- Really bad. Pointless ecchi with no substance. Dropped.
Wake Up, Girls!- Not sure yet, haven't watched any.
Toei Robot Girls Z- Another short I'm giving a shot just because it seems fun so far.
Seitokai Yakuindomo*- YAY PERVERSION!!! YES!
Saikin, Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga.- Really bad ecchi with tons of WTF moments, but it's kinda fun so I'll give it another episode or two.
Nisekoi- Only SHAFT show this season. I CAN'T WAIT!
Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda- A1 Pictures. Fantasy. Yes. Can't wait. Will watch.
